The Ministry of Coal, Government of India, has made significant strides in enhancing coal transportation with its first mile connectivity (FMC) initiative.
A total of 139 FMC projects have been launched, with 65 projects already commissioned, collectively boosting coal transport capacity by 552 million tonne. These projects aim to modernise coal transport, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact across India's coal supply chain. The FMC initiative focuses on reducing delays and improving logistics, while minimising road transportation to cut emissions. It also integrates digital monitoring for enhanced transparency and real-time tracking, with minimal manual handling to preserve coal quality and reduce losses during transit.
“The FMC projects contribute to environmental protection, improved public health, and India’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions,” said the Ministry of Coal. The initiative reflects the Government's commitment to technology-driven, sustainable coal transportation and marks a significant step toward modernising India’s energy infrastructure while lowering its carbon footprint.
