Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has met with representatives of pharmaceutical major Pfizer, to start a research wing in Kerala. The Chief Minister is currently on a tour of the USA and Cuba.
The high-level meeting which took place in New York veered on exploring whether the Chennai centre could open a branch in Kerala, as Pfizer already has a research centre in Chennai.
Emphasising the advancements made so far, he showcased Kerala’s public health achievements, and areas such as biotechnology, bioinformatics, statistics and research on applied mathematics as crucial areas for Pfizer to help decide in favour of setting the centre in Kerala. Possibly, a team of Pfizer officials could visit Kerala in the course of the year.
The CM also shared the details of the Digital Sciences Park in Kerala. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently dedicated the facility to the nation.
The delegation led by CM Vijayan is expected to return to Kerala on 16 June, 2023.
