Kerala Governor has announced that the Pattissery Dam project in Idukki will be commissioned by February 15.
This project is part of Kerala's entitlement to water under the Cauvery inter-state river water dispute. Alongside this, the Banasura Sagar main canal is expected to be completed by May, and the Karappuzha project is set to be finished by December. The Governor's policy address also emphasised the importance of ensuring safety at the Mullaperiyar Dam, reiterating Kerala's stance of "Water for Tamil Nadu and Safety for Kerala," and calling for the formation of an expert committee to assess the structural strength of the old dam. The speech also highlighted the state's focus on utilising the tourism potential of irrigation projects and promoting digital governance within the Kerala Water Authority (KWA).
Additionally, the implementation of the KM Mani Community Micro-Irrigation Scheme was mentioned, which aims to expand its scope to include all cash crops, providing more income-generating opportunities for the youth.
