The Kerala government is set to make a final decision within a month on the proposed Rs 360-crore cloverleaf interchange at the intersection of the Vizhinjam Port approach road and National Highway 66.
The detailed project file has been submitted to the Public Works Department (PWD), which is expected to issue the necessary government order shortly. Once approved, Vizhinjam International Seaport (VISL) will begin the process of acquiring nearly 30 acres for the project. The plan, reviewed in a high-level meeting chaired by Fisheries Special Secretary Abdul Nazar, was deemed essential to ensure the smooth movement of trucks and trailers, particularly once gateway cargo operations commence.
The cloverleaf, featuring four loops, will be developed jointly—two loops by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the remaining two by Adani Vizhinjam Port (AVPPL), the private port operator. The land acquisition costs will be shared equally by the state government and NHAI. A portion of government land previously reserved for a truck terminal will also be repurposed for the interchange. Additionally, a meeting chaired by the chief secretary will discuss surrounding infrastructure like warehouses, container stations, and logistics parks to support port-led industrialisation
