Kerala is set to expand its waste treatment infrastructure with the establishment of five new compressed biogas (CBG) plants across the state, following the successful model at Brahmapuram.
These plants will be set up in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Kollam, Kannur, and Changanassery.
The construction will begin in April, wherein BPCL Kochi Refinery will oversee the project. The Brahmapuram plant is expected to be completed by March-end, with work progressing in the other locations. In addition to the new plants, the state has made significant progress in cleaning up waste yards across Kerala, including areas like Brahmapuram, Laloor, Njelianparamba, Kureepuzha, and Guruvayur.
The government is intensifying its waste management campaign, aiming to eliminate large garbage piles statewide by 30 March, 2025.
