Kochi Metro Rail (KMRL) has launched a feasibility study to assess the potential extension of Water Metro services to Cochin International Airport, with a focus on a canal near Nedumbassery.

The study, set to conclude in three months, will examine the canal's navigability and its potential for waterway services. Once completed, KMRL will submit a detailed proposal to the state government. The proposed waterway, running an eight-km stretch along the Periyar River, will offer commuters a faster, congestion-free route to the airport, alleviating traffic on major roads.

The project also includes a planned aerial walkway connecting the Metro station and airport. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision to extend the Water Metro model to other Indian cities, providing triple-mode connectivity to Kochi Airport.
