The NHAI has begun the process to acquire land between Vadodara and Mumbai
for the expressway.
According to sources, Vadodara-Mumbai expressway will be along the same
alignment which was fixed by the Gujarat Government in 1992. A corridor of about
600 mtrs has already been set aside for the expressway. Of this only 120 mtrs
will be acquired from Vadodara to Gujarat border. However, once this 120 mtrs
was acquired, the freeze on another 480 mtrs is likely to be lifted.
The 380 km expressway between Vadodara (Gujarat) and Dahisar (Maharashtra)
will come up on DBFO basis. The Vadodara-Mumbai section is likely to cost about
Rs 7,500 crore. While the expressway will have six lanes between Vadodara-Surat,
it will have eight lanes between Surat and Dahisar.
The construction of the expressway is slated to be ready by December 2015.
