With Gujarat targeting the 2036 Olympics, land acquisition for the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave at Motera is nearing completion.
Spread over 650 acres around Narendra Modi Stadium, the Rs 5,050 crore project will be developed in two phases. Officials confirmed that of 814 marked structures, 665 have been demolished, with displaced residents offered housing within one to three km. Land is being acquired from organisations like Bhartiya Seva Samaj, Sadashiv Pragya Mandal and Sant Asaram Ashram, though the Asaram land issue remains sub judice.
Demolitions are ongoing in Shivnagar and Vanazara Vas; 90 of 127 structures in Shivnagar have been cleared. For a planned 24 mtrs. road, 283 of 378 structures have been razed, alongside 292 structures cleared for the Aquatics Centre.
Package 1 (Rs 2,250 crore) includes the Aquatics Centre, for which tenders wil be floated in November, with completion by November 2028. Package 2 (Rs 2,800 crore) covers an indoor arena, tennis centre, National Institute of Sports Excellence, and athlete housing, with tenders to be floated in December, with a completion deadline of December 2028. The entire project aligns with India’s Olympic bid timeline.
