The land acquisition process for Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) is nearing completion, with 96 percent of the approved 2,097 hectares already acquired, according to a state government statement.
Approx. 2,015 hectares have been secured, of which over 1,794 hectares have been purchased and around 220 hectares reacquired, transferred, or exchanged. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), the nodal agency for the project, is pushing for completion by November 2025.
Land acquisition has spanned six nodes: Jhansi (1,087 ha), Chitrakoot (274 ha), Kanpur Nagar (222 ha), Lucknow (160 ha), Aligarh (158 ha), and Agra (112 ha). Compensation has been provided to approx. 5,800 farmers, with Jhansi recording the highest number (2,037).
Additionally, 2,345 sale deeds have been finalised across the six locations, with Jhansi leading again. Officials emphasised that the process was conducted transparently and with a strong focus on safeguarding farmers’ rights. The initiative is projected to stimulate industrial activity and generate local employment.
