The work of four-laning of the road connecting SN Junction in Tripunithura to Poothotta in Kochi, Kerala has moved ahead, with the land acquisition process officially underway. The Ernakulam district collectorate has formally requested the issuance of the 11(1) notification, which will enable the next steps of the project, including land surveys and valuation.
MLA K Babu confirmed that the request has been submitted to the relevant department and that once the notification is issued, surveys of the affected land parcels will commence immediately, along with valuation of buildings that fall within the revised project alignment. He stated, “Soon a notification will be issued for the distribution of compensation for the land and buildings to be acquired.”
The road widening project is being implemented with financial backing from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). The plan, which had initially proposed acquiring 12.34 hectares of land, has now been updated to 13.2 hectares to accommodate the revised alignment for the four-lane road.
The project will be carried out in two phases, and aims to significantly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion along the busy corridor linking Tripunithura with Poothotta, a key suburban stretch in the Kochi region. The initiation of the acquisition process is a major milestone, especially considering the delays and administrative bottlenecks the project has faced in the past.
