The Union government has approved road projects worth Rs 44,771 crore for Odisha, including improvements to National and State Highways.
Odisha Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan announced the approval after meeting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on 09 December, 2025. The projects will enhance the state’s infrastructure in the 2025-26 financial year, with major works on five National Highways, five State Highways, and Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) projects. Notable projects include the widening of the National Highway between Bhubaneswar and Puri, as well as the 140 km-long Tangi-Puintola-Ichchapuram road.
A 400 km road between Rourkela-Barbil-Paradip and a 68 km stretch of Pallahada-Pitiri under NH-149 are also included. Additionally, Rs 13,141 crore has been approved for the improvement of five state highway projects, including four-laning of key roads. Minister Harichandan also discussed a greenfield project connecting Bhubaneswar to Paradip. "This road will greatly benefit the port city and improve connectivity," Union Minister Gadkari said.
