Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and BPL Medical Technologies have signed a landmark memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance industry-academia collaboration in medical technology development.
This initiative, under MAHE’s “Year of Excellence in Industry-Academia Collaboration,” aims to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial innovation to develop clinically validated, cost-effective medical devices for India and global markets. The MoU was signed by Dr Giridhar P Kini, Registrar, MAHE, and Guruswamy Krishnamurthy, CEO of BPL Medical Technologies, in the presence of senior dignitaries from both organisations.
The collaboration will support joint educational activities, academic research, scholar exchanges, and internships, aligned with the ‘Make in India’ initiative. BPL will leverage MAHE’s advanced facilities and clinical expertise, while MAHE students gain real-world exposure.
The partnership also strengthens MAHE’s MIDAS (Medical Instruments, Devices & Allied Services) hub, India’s first medical device innovation hub in a private university, supported by the Department of Science & Technology. MIDAS unites 25 institutions and 30 industry partners to reduce import dependency and boost affordable healthcare innovation across India.
