Mineral Exploration & Consultancy (MECL) has initiated lignite exploration at the Poonam ki Dhani lignite block, located in the Barmer-Sanchor Basin of Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan.
This development marks a critical step in MECL’s commitment to bolstering India’s energy security through systematic and scientific exploration of lignite resources. Lignite, often referred to as brown coal, is a low-rank, combustible sedimentary rock primarily used in thermal power generation.
MECL is actively conducting lignite exploration across India’s Western basins (Barmer-Sanchor and Bikaner-Nagaur) and Southern basin (Neyveli and surrounding regions). MECL has deployed dedicated exploration teams, advanced field equipment, and its in-house laboratory infrastructure for conducting detailed geological, geophysical, and geochemical analyses.
This milestone underlines MECL’s continued efforts to support sustainable energy solutions and resource mapping, contributing to long-term energy planning.
