MG Motor India is investing Rs 2,500 crore by the end of 2022 to increase production capacity at its Halol plant in Gujarat, as it gears up to launch mid-size SUV Astor.
The company has already done an investment of Rs 3,000 crore and by the end of 2022, it will do another Rs 2,500 crore.
The investment will be for adding further capacity as the company prepares to meet demand of new models, including the mid-size SUV Astor, which is expected to hit the market by November 2021.
The company can even produce up to 5,000 units a month had it not been for the supply constraints.
In 2018, the company had announced plans to invest Rs 5,000 crore over a period of five to six years, with its Halol plant envisaged to have an annual production capacity of 80,000 to one lakh units in Phase-I and take it up to over two lakh units in Phase-II.
