Automaker MG Motor India will explore the assembly of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and repairs at its manufacturing plant in Halol in Gujarat. It is mulling collaboration with third parties for this purpose.
The automobile manufacturer is also looking to expand the Halol plant which would involve enhancing capacity and streamlining operations in line with market requirements. The cell manufacturing with third parties will also help to advance sustainability efforts,a s also plans in the area of manufacturing hydrogen cell fuel and other technologies.
The company, last year had announced an investment of Rs 5,000 crore in its India 3.0 plan towards the expansion, with plans to hire nearly 20,000 employees. Further, the company is also planning to establish a second manufacturing unit in the state, which would augment its production output up to three lakh vehicles.
Under the MG Charge initiative, the company has installed 500 charging points across residential societies, hotels, educational institutions, and apartments, with the goal of reaching 1,000 chargers within 1,000 days.
