Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved construction of the proposed Morand Ganjal Irrigation project.
The project has been approved for Harda, Khandwa and Hoshangabad districts in Madhya Pradesh. The estimated cost the project is Rs 2,813 crore.
Under the project, dams will be built on Morand river near Morghat village of Seoni Malwa tehsil and on Ganjal river near Jawardha village of Rahatgaon tehsil-Harda district.
The project will benefit a total 4,617 ha of land in 28 villages of Hoshangabad, 17,678 ha of land in 62 villages of Harsud tehsil-district Khandwa, and 29,910 ha of agriculture land in 121 villages of Harda, Khirkiya, Sirali and Rahatgaon tehsils of Harda district.
A total of 52,205 ha of command area will also be created by this project. The project will be constructed in three phases. Of which, Morand dam will be undertaken in the first phase and construction of canal in the second phase. The construction of Ganjal dam is proposed in the third phase of the project.
