Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL) has commissioned its latest bitumen production facility in Mangaluru, equipped with advanced ‘Biturox’ technology from Austria-based Pörner.
Designed by Engineers India (EIL), the new unit significantly enhances MRPL’s production capacity, doubling its output to 1.5 lakh tonne annually. This development aligns with India’s goal of reducing dependency on imported Bitumen and meeting the growing demand for high-quality road construction materials.
The plant is designed to produce premium VG40-grade Bitumen, critical for heavy-duty road applications, while also offering flexibility to manufacture other grades like VG30. This ensures a consistent and diverse supply for India’s road infrastructure projects. The advanced Biturox technology not only boosts production but also delivers superior quality.
India's highway network and its focus on infrastructure as a driver of economic growth, have created a surge in Bitumen demand, amd recognizing this need, MRPL began the expansion project in 2022.
