Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to prepare a proposal for an underground tunnel connecting Yerawada and Katraj.
The proposed tunnel, utilising twin-tunnel technology, will ease traffic between the northern and southern parts of Pune. The 15 km distance, currently burdened with heavy traffic, will benefit commuters by reducing travel time and congestion.
PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase revealed that the proposal received in-principle approval, and work will begin on the detailed project report (DPR) and feasibility study. The tunnel aims to include three lanes each for both directions, linking key roads in the city.
Additionally, the meeting approved significant infrastructure projects, including Rs 636.84 crore for road networks to connect the upcoming Purandar airport, Rs 203 crore for cement roads in Ranjangaon and Hinjewadi industrial zones, and Rs 1,526 crore for urban growth centre road development.
