Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on 19 June, 2025 instructed the state finance department to release Rs 54,354 crore for land acquisition tied to 11 critical infrastructure projects across the state. During a high-level review meeting at his official residence, CM Fadnavis emphasised that delays in land acquisition substantially escalate project costs.
Projects under review included the Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth Highway, Virar-Alibaug Multimodal Corridor, Jalna-Nanded Expressway, and the Pune Ring Road (East, West, and Extension), among others. For the Shaktipeeth Highway alone, Fadnavis directed an immediate release of Rs 12,000 crore, with clear instructions to minimize impact on forest land.
Addressing the Virar-Alibaug corridor, the CM noted the presence of forest and mangrove areas in the Morbe-Karanja stretch, calling for prompt action to obtain necessary environmental permissions. He also instructed that land acquisition in Selu, Parbhani for the Jalna-Nanded Expressway be completed within 15 days. Fadnavis further urged the submission of a proposal to include the Vadhan-Igatpuri Expressway under the Sagarmala scheme, and ordered early finalisation of expressway plans in Vidarbha, including Bhandara-Gadchiroli, Nagpur-Chandrapur, and Nagpur-Gondiya.
