Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on 13 May, 2025 inaugurated the newly constructed Reay Road road over bridge (ROB), a landmark infrastructure project aimed at alleviating severe east-west traffic congestion in South Mumbai. The ROB, constructed at a cost of Rs 273 crore, is Mumbai’s first land-based cable-stayed bridge.

The inauguration was part of a dual launch event that also included the opening of another project at Titwala. Spanning 385 mtrs., the bridge connects Mahul Road near the Eastern Freeway with Barrister Nath Pai Marg in Byculla, significantly improving connectivity between Byculla East and Mazgaon by passing over the busy Harbour railway line. The project was completed in just over two years, with construction beginning in February 2022.

Designed and built by the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), the bridge features a sleek, modern structure with six lanes and two approach ramps. The design, which includes six pairs of supporting cables, is inspired by the city’s iconic Bandra-Worli Sea Link and integrates aesthetic engineering with functionality.
