The Maharashtra government plans to implement the construction of four lakh housing units in 2023 under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). Of these, 60 percent (2.5 lakh) houses will be reserved for scheduled caste-scheduled tribe (SC, ST) beneficiaries, whereas 1.5 lakh households will be under other categories, as allocated in 2023-24 Budget. Further, as envisaged under the ‘Homes for all’ scheme, 10 lakh houses will be built in the rural areas of the state.
Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Devendra Fadnavis apprised that the ‘Ramai Awas Yojana’, which is a 1.5 lakh- housing project, will be implemented with an outlay of Rs 1,800 crore, out of which 25,000 houses will be dedicated to the Matang community. Nearly one lakh houses will be constructed with an expenditure of Rs 1,200 crore under the Shabri, Pardhi and Adim Awas Yojana. Moreover, in the ‘Yashwantrao Chavan Mukt Vasahat Yojana’, 25,000 housing units will be for the Vimukta Jati and nomadic tribes, and another 25,000 such units will be for beneficiaries from the Dhangar community. This will entail a budgetary capital of Rs 600 crore.
The state government also informed that a new housing scheme named ‘Modi Awas Gharkul Yojana’ will be launched wherein 10 lakh houses will be allotted to beneficiaries belonging to other backward classes in the next three years. Of these, three lakh houses will be completed in FY24 at a cost of Rs 3,600 crore, as per the budget, and Rs 12,000 crore will be incurred for development.
This will help meet the requirements of homes and redevelopment projects, and also raise the standards of living of the people of Maharashtra belonging to these categories.
The Budget 2023-24 offers certain relaxed terms such as continuing the 1 percent waiver on stamp duty fees for women home buyers for the purchase of a residential unit.
