Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis outlined the state's vision to transform Sambhaji Nagar into India’s electric vehicle (EV) capital and Gadchiroli into a major steel hub, during a business forum in Mumbai on 25 March, 2025. The EV ecosystem in Sambhaji Nagar is rapidly expanding, with Ather setting up a plant, joining Toyota and JSW, reinforcing its growing importance.
Meanwhile, Gadchiroli has attracted investments worth Rs two lakh crore, positioning it as a major player in India’s steel industry. Fadnavis highlighted Indian companies’ USD 40 billion investment in the US, many of which are headquartered in Maharashtra. He also announced the development of an "Innovation City" spanning 300 acres near Navi Mumbai Airport, expected to launch in May 2025. Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran has volunteered to design the layout of this futuristic hub.
The state is focusing on the global capability centre (GCC) revolution, with dedicated zones to attract GCCs, reinforcing Mumbai’s role as the fintech capital. Maharashtra is also developing a new city near Navi Mumbai Airport, while a “4th Mumbai” is planned near Wadhawan Port, featuring an airport and a bullet train station to boost connectivity and economic growth.
By 2028, Maharashtra aims to supply green power to all major industrial corridors, with all corridors expected to be operational by 2030. "Maharashtra accounts for 14% of India's GDP and remains the favourite destination for investors," the CM said, underlining the state’s contribution to India’s economy.
