A high-level meeting chaired by Minister for Tourism, Shambhuraj Desai, in Mumbai focused on accelerating the tourism project at Shiroda-Velaghar in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra.
Spearheaded by the Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), the project spans 52.63 hectares and aims to create a world-class tourism destination. Despite challenges with land acquisition, the state government has approved a special compensation package for local farmers, and a tripartite agreement between IHCL, the government, and local villagers is being finalised.
Minister Desai emphasised, "This project will boost local employment, foster sustainable growth, and enhance the region’s tourism appeal." The development will create employment, promote local culture and businesses, and improve infrastructure, positioning Maharashtra as a global tourism hub. The involvement of Taj Hotels is expected to attract both domestic and international tourists, offering a luxurious destination while ensuring the use of local resources to benefit the surrounding economy.
