Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has submitted a letter of interest to the Maharashtra government for acquiring a 350-acre land parcel in Igatpuri.
The Mumbai-based automaker, which already operates plants in Nashik and Igatpuri, is exploring the possibility of using the land to establish a supplier park or expand facilities for its existing plants. Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of Auto and Farm Sectors, stated that the proposed land could serve as a feeder facility for Nashik and Igatpuri operations.
However, the plan is at a preliminary stage and will undergo due diligence, regulatory checks, and internal approvals before finalization. While the interest has been formally expressed, the acquisition process is yet to be completed.
Meanwhile, Mahindra’s Automotive Division CEO, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, revealed that the company is expanding its Chakan plant’s production capacity by 2.4 lakh units in the first phase this year. Post-expansion, Chakan’s total output is expected to rise to 7.5–7.6 lakh units annually, supporting the company’s long-term growth strategy.
