Maruti Suzuki India plans to invest Rs 1,664 crore for the expansion of
Manesar plant in Haryana which will increase its capacity of producing 3 to 5.5
lakh cars per annum by 2012. Foundation stone for the expansion project was laid
on 23 March 2010.
According to sources, the total ongoing investment is around Rs 4,185 crore.
Of this Rs 1,664 crore has been earmarked for capacity expansion at the Manesar
plant in Haryana, while the rest Rs 2,521 crore is likely to be divided almost
equally between the engine plant expansion and the upcoming research and
development centre at Rohtak.
The company currently has a production capacity of 10 lakh vehicles across
two plants - Manesar (3 lakh units) and Gurgaon (7 lakh units). Due to the high
demand for most of its models, the company is operating at close to full
capacity. Post expansion, the company's combined capacity is likely to go up to
12.5 lakh units per annum by 2012.
