A mega food park by the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) in Palakkad is nearing completion and will soon be inaugurated.
Ninety percent work on the food park has been completed and it is set to open for farmers within two or three months.
The food park will produce value-added products and source raw materials directly from farmers in the project zone.
The park is situated on 79.42 acre of land parcel and the total project cost is Rs 120 crore.
The state government has funded Rs 70 crore for the project and the remaining was funded by the Centre.
The common facilities including cold storage, ripening chamber, warehouses, pack house, spice processing facility and quality control laboratory have been completed.
The remaining land at the park will be used for allotment to prospective entrepreneurs, investors from the food processing industry under 30-year lease agreement, renewable up to 90 years.
The project also includes four primary processing centres located in Wayanad (Kalpetta), Malappuram (Kakkancherry), Thrissur (Koratty) and Ernakulum (Mazhavanoor) districts with infrastructure facilities for pre-processing activities or lower-end food processing.
