Work on the three million tpa metallurgical coke plant at Haldia in Midnapore
district of West Bengal promoted by Hooghly Met Coke & Power Company is
underway. Out of total capacity, work on 1.20 million tpa was completed and the
remaining 0.20 and 1.60 million tpa capacity was scheduled to be completed by
June and August 2009 respectively. The coke plant is being set up at an outlay
of Rs 1,200 crore.
The project also comprises setting up of a 120 MW waste based power plant at
a cost of Rs 550 crore. Work on 90 MW was underway with completion scheduled for
August 2009 and remaining 30 MW was under development.
Larsen & Toubro and Simplex Infrastructures are the contractors while BHEL
and Thermax are the machinery suppliers for the entire project.
Hooghly Met Coke & Power Company is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Tata Steel.
