The Mewat Canal in Haryana is under construction at a cost of Rs 326.40
crore. The canal is being constructed to provide sufficient water facilities to
the backward areas in the region.
With the construction of the canal, as much as 728 cusecs water could be
released during monsoon upto 60 days. Besides this, the canal will also provide
638 cusecs water to the Gurgaon Canal in future.
The state government also plans to construct the BML Hansi Butana
Multi-Purpose Canal. The survey of this canal had already been conducted and DPR
was being prepared by WAPCO. The work on it is likely to begin in 2010 is
expected to be completed within the next two years. After the construction of
this canal, about 200 to 300 cusecs water will be available in Mewat Canal
regularly.
