A mini hydroelectric project was commissioned at Vilangad, in Kerala, on 1 September 2014.
The 7.5 MW (3 x 2.50 MW) power project was built on Vaniyampuzha and Kavadipuzha, the tributaries of Mahe river. The project was set up with an investment of Rs 59.49 crore.
The completed project consists of two small dams at Panoth and Valookku, two associated canals, a fore-bay tank, penstock, three 2.5 MW generators, and a 124 mtr tailrace channel.
Power generated from the hydroelectric project will be taken to Nadapuram substation, 14 km from the project location.
The project was set up by Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).
