The Ministry of Coal will launch the 13th round of commercial coal mine auctions in New Delhi today. Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy will preside as Chief Guest, alongside Minister of State Shri Satish Chandra Dubey as Guest of Honour.
This initiative represents a further step in advancing transparency, competition, and self-reliance in India’s coal sector. Introduced in 2020 under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the commercial coal auction framework has transformed the sector by increasing coal availability, reducing imports, and opening opportunities for both established and new players.
The 13th round will feature a fresh set of fully and partially explored coal blocks under liberal terms, aimed at boosting investments, improving ease of doing business, and supporting India’s growing energy needs. The event will also highlight prospects in underground and surface coal gasification. Additionally, Coal Mine Development & Production Agreements (CMDPA) will be signed for 11 mines allocated in earlier rounds. Industry leaders, investors, and stakeholders are invited to participate in shaping a dynamic, competitive, and sustainable coal ecosystem as part of India’s vision of Viksit Bharat.
