Mitsubishi Electric India, a leading Japanese electrical and electronic equipment maker, on 06 February, 2026, inaugurated its new air conditioner and compressor manufacturing unit at Gummidipoondi, near Chennai, with an investment of Rs 2,100 crore.
The facility, located on the Mahindra Origins campus, was launched virtually by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin. This is Mitsubishi Electric India's second manufacturing unit in India, following the opening of its Factory Automation Systems plant in Pune in 2023. Spanning 210,000 sq. mtrs., the Gummidipoondi facility has an annual production capacity of 3,00,000 air conditioners and 6,50,000 compressors. The unit is expected to create over 2,100 direct and indirect employment and strengthen the regional supplier ecosystem by promoting local sourcing and skill development.
By manufacturing domestically, Mitsubishi Electric India aims to reduce import dependence and support the growth of a self-reliant HVAC manufacturing sector. Atsushi Takase, Managing Director of Mitsubishi Electric India, highlighted, “This facility will support the growing demand for energy-efficient air-conditioning solutions and enable us to respond faster to customer needs, strengthen quality control, and ensure sustainable operations.”
