The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has given administrative and financial approval of Rs 58.60 crore for the construction of a four-lane road and a new bridge from Magardahghat to Muktapur in Samastipur district of Bihar.
The project involves expanding a 2.056-km stretch from Mathurapur to the Muktapur road over bridge (ROB) on National Highway-322. A significant component of the initiative is the construction of a new 200-mtrs.-long high load reinforced cement concrete (HLRCC) bridge over the Budhi Gandak river. This new structure will replace the existing old screw pile bridge and will consist of eight spans, each measuring 24 mtrs. In addition, the road between chainage 67.471 km and 69.256 km will be widened and strengthened to accommodate increased traffic flow.
A tender has already been floated, and the construction is expected to be completed within 24 months. Bihar Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen welcomed the decision, and said it will significantly enhance connectivity between Samastipur and Darbhanga and reduce congestion.
