The LN Mittal Group is expected to soon sign an
MoU with the Jharkhand government for its proposed 10 million tpa integrated
steel plant in that state.
Mr Lakshmi N Mittal, Chairman and CEO of the
Mittal Group, who met the Union steel minister, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan, on 23 July
2005 has reportedly stated that negotiations with the Jharkhand government were
in progress and the MoU was likely to be signed in a couple of weeks.
The Mittal Group has already had discussions with
the Jharkhand government. The Union steel ministry has reportedly agreed to
provide some portion of the Chiria iron ores mines to the proposed steel plant.
The Mittals have shortlisted three sites --
Manoharpur, Chandi and Chaukra Kandra -- all in the vicinity of state capital
Ranchi for the project. However, no final decision about the location and
investment outlay has been arrived at.
The Jharkhand mega steel project was first
proposed in May 2005.
