Mumbai Port Authority plans to develop a marina in the sea using its own funds. The earlier plan was to develop and run the marina at the port’s Princess Dock on a public-private-partnership (PPP) mode for 45 years.
Under the earlier plan, the successful bidder would be required to invest Rs 575.19 crore to design the marina and ancillary systems over 9.02 hectares of land with a capacity to park at least 300 pleasure boats/yachts. With limited scope for expanding cargo handling activities due to evacuation hurdles, the port authority has decided to develop the waterfront for leisure activities more suitable with urban uses. The move aligns with the larger plan on Mumbai waterfront regeneration.
The port authority has evaluated the opportunity to create a marina equipped with all the typical services of the best marinas to enhance and promote the growth of the territory, and at the same time, to open the city to tourism by sea.
