The 700 km Mumbai–Nagpur Natural Gas Pipeline project has seen the completion of its final pressure testing, bringing Nagpur just days away from receiving compressed natural gas (CNG).
The pipeline is part of the larger 1,700 km Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda network, an Rs 8,000 crore project which will supply natural gas across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Officials confirmed that testing was conducted at nearly 140 kg pressure, though regular operations will run at around 90 kg. Gas flow has already reached Nashik, indicating strong progress along the western corridor. The network also features a 310 km spur line connecting Nagpur with Chhindwara and Jabalpur.
The project is expected to significantly benefit industries and SMEs by lowering fuel costs and promoting cleaner, safer operations. Once fully operational, GAIL will supply CNG to HCG Nagpur, expanding piped natural gas access across the city. The development is set to transform fuel availability in Vidarbha and boost regional industrial growth.
