The Mysuru City Corporation’s plans to construct an abattoir at Kesare was approved by district manager, V Srinivas Prasad, yesterday.
The project was given approval during a meeting on Tuesday. For the project, the Centre and the state governments have sanctioned Rs 39.90 crore. In addition, the project has received a no-objection certificate from the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board. The plot in Kesare where the project will come up is owned by the MCC.
In June 2014, the project was given the go ahead by MCC but it has been opposed by locals. The agitators have pointed out that the 30 acre plot abuts residential areas and the site is off the Outer Ring Road (ORR). Also, the site is close to places of worship.
