The National Committee on Transmission (NCT) has approved a major interstate transmission system (ISTS) scheme valued at Rs 8,386 crore to support green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
Titled “Transmission system for proposed green hydrogen/green ammonia projects in Vizag area, Andhra Pradesh (Phase-I),” the project will be executed under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) framework, with REC Power Development & Consultancy (RECPDCL) appointed as bid process coordinator. The project aims to meet 5,000 MW of green energy demand, with NTPC Green Energy already seeking 2,500 MW of general network access starting September 2028.
With a gestation period of 30 months, the scheme includes two new substations— Pendurthi (Vizag) and Khammam-II, and three new 765kV double-circuit lines totaling 650 km. Power Grid Corporation of India owns Srikakulam and Khamman substations, while Adani Energy Solutions owns the Warangal (New) substation, originally developed by Essel Infraprojects and acquired through Warora Kurnool Transmission (WKTL).
