The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun preparations for a six-lane elevated highway connecting Aroor to Edappally in Kerala, following the near completion of the Aroor-Thuravoor elevated highway.
A tender has been floated for the new detailed project report (DPR) after finalising a revised alignment, taking into account the upcoming Kochi Metro viaduct at Palarivattom Bypass Junction. The DPR is expected within six months, with construction slated for completion in approx. three and a half years. The 14.64-km corridor will link Edappally Junction near Oberon Mall to Aroor Junction, providing a seamless elevated route on NH-66 and easing congestion in one of Kerala’s most overburdened road segments, which carries around one lakh passenger car units daily.
Designed to fit within existing right-of-way, the project minimizes additional land acquisition while bypassing major urban choke points like Palarivattom, Vyttila, and Kundanoor, enhancing traffic flow post-completion of the Aroor-Thuravoor highway.
