The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to construct two flyovers at the Kitchipalayam and Erumapalayam Junctions on the Salem-Ulundurpet National Highway.
These junctions, connecting Salem Corporation with rural areas, witness frequent accidents due to heavy traffic. Thousands of vehicles pass daily, including schoolchildren, commuters, and commercial traffic. In response to local demands, the NHAI approved the construction of flyovers at these spots, aiming to reduce accidents and improve road safety. The project, which is set to cost Rs 45 crore, will involve constructing flyovers of 500 to 600 mtrs. in length.
The tender process has been completed, and construction works are expected to begin by the end of February 2026, with completion slated for July 2027. Steps are being taken to expedite the process before the upcoming Assembly elections to avoid delays.
