The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated the construction of a new steel bowstring road over bridge (ROB) at Katpadi railway station on the Mangalore Villupuram Highway (NH-75) to alleviate traffic congestion.
The new bridge, costing Rs 44.64 crore, will be located next to the existing bridge, a concrete structure built over 30 years ago. NHAI officials stated that the new bridge will be ready by September 2026. The project aims to ease traffic, particularly during rush hours when over 20,000 vehicles pass daily, including ambulances and school buses. The new bridge will be 90.88 mtrs. long, 12.5 mtrs. wide, and will feature LED streetlights, tiled footpaths, and staircases to connect to the railway station. The
Southern Railway will also work on the rail track portion to ensure smooth rail traffic. The bridge will improve the flow of over 260 trains and benefit around 25,000 commuters daily.
