Neyveli Lignite Corporation is planning to set up
a 1,000 MW lignite-based power plant in Gujarat, it is learnt. The project plan
is still in a rudimentary stage.
Besides Gujarat, NLC has also planned to set up
new plants in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Orissa.
In its home state, Tamil Nadu, NLC has proposed
to set up the 2,000 MW Jayamkondam power project. The feasibility study of
the project is currently underway. There is a slight change in configuration.
Earlier, the project was to come up as four units of 500 MW each. It is likely
now that the project would comprise three units of 600 MW supercritical boilers,
or even two units of 800 MW.
Meanwhile, NLC has finalised the equipment
supplier for its ongoing 2x250 MW power project in Neyveli. Orders are likely to
be placed with BHEL in October 2005.
