NPCIL and Areva are expected to sign two deals on 6 December 2010 for setting
up the 10,000 MWe nuclear power project at Jaitapur in Maharashtra.
The two agreements are a general framework agreement (GFA) and an early works
contract. The general framework agreement will list out the scope of work, terms
and conditions of plant life, guarantees and warrantees, and guaranteed plant
load factor. The early work contract on the other hand, is to specify the design
of the project, civil structure, and intake of water as required under the
coastal zone regulations.
NPCIL and Areva had in 2009 signed an MoU for the supply of six European
Pressurised Reactors or Evolutionary Power Reactors (EPRs) of 1,650 MWe each.
Initially, these two agreements would be for the supply of two EPRs by Areva.
The project is likely to entail an investment of over Rs 1 lakh crore.
