Nuclear Power Corporation has decided to advance
the commercial commissioning of Unit 4 (540 MWe) of its Tarapur atomic power
plant, by a month. The unit is expected to begin commercial operations by 15 May
2005.
The unit, which is the largest power unit of any
kind in India, went critical on 6 March 2005. The project was completed seven
months ahead of schedule, and within five years from the first pour of concrete.
NPCIL has expedited the commissioning of the
power plant with a view to help Maharashtra, which would get 39 per cent of the
power produced, to tide over its present power crisis.
