The 108th meeting of the Network Planning Group (NPG) was held at the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to review key infrastructure projects.
During the meeting, the NPG assessed seven road projects to ensure they aligned with PM GatiShakti principles, including integrated multimodal infrastructure, last-mile connectivity to economic and social hubs. The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has proposed several key infrastructure projects to enhance regional connectivity, freight movement, and strategic access across India. In Tamil Nadu, a six-lane corridor is planned on NH 544 from Salem to Kumarapalayam, covering 102.035 km along the high-volume Kochi–Coimbatore–Bengaluru freight and passenger corridor.
The project includes service roads, upgraded junctions and interchanges, widened bridges, flyovers, Road-over-Bridges (ROBs), and culverts, aiming to improve traffic flow, road safety, and access to industrial clusters, SEZs, logistics hubs, and railway terminals. In Andhra Pradesh, the 189.93 km Amaravati Outer Ring Road (ORR) is proposed as a greenfield project to decongest cities and strengthen multimodal connectivity, linking Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali, airports, and major ports such as Machilipatnam and Krishnapatnam. The ORR will support freight efficiency, reduce travel time by 30–40 percent, and cut emissions.
In Jammu & Kashmir, a 62.10 km two-lane road with paved shoulders is planned from Rafiabad to Tangdhar via Kupwara and Chowkibal, enhancing border area connectivity and supporting defence logistics. These projects were evaluated under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan for integrated, last-mile, and multimodal infrastructure development.
