National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is now allocating 933 MW of power to Odisha from its existing thermal power plants. Upon commissioning of its upcoming and completed projects, the state is likely to get 1,463 MW of power in the coming days.
This project is being constructed with all modern environmental features. Besides creating direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region, the projects have contributed to improvement of physical infrastructure and many community development initiatives. Two major projects, NTPC Darlipali super thermal power station and NSPCL Rourkela PP-II expansion project, have been completed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate these two projects to the nation on 03 February, 2024.
Besides, PM will lay the foundation stone of NTPC Talcher thermal power project (TTPS) stage-III, another important power project of the company. All three projects will come up in Odisha with an investment of Rs 28,978 crore. The Darlipali super thermal power plant located in Sundargarh district is a pit-head power station with high-efficient technology. It will supply low-cost power to its beneficiary states.
The 250 MW project of NSPCL Rourkela project is established in Rourkela steel plant to provide reliable power for the steel plant which. The company is developing Talcher thermal project stage-III within old TTPS plant premises in Angul district, which was taken over by the NTPC. Highly efficient ultra-super critical technology will be used for the upcoming plant. It will be about three times the capacity of the old TTPS Plant.
The company is also producing green energy in the form of solar power. By 2032, it seeks to become a 130 GW firm. In eastern region-II, it has five thermal power stations and a solar power plant at Kaniha in Angul district.
