In an effort to address the ongoing natural gas shortage and enhance power generation, the Tripura government will introduce combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology at the Rukhia Power Plant in Sepahijala district, increasing its generation capacity by 120 MW.
The foundation stone for the project will be laid on November 26. Despite challenges like a gas crisis and delayed environmental clearances, the Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) has continued to ensure an uninterrupted power supply by adopting modern, efficient technologies. The CCGT system will allow the plant to generate more power using the same amount of gas, improving overall efficiency.
The project is valued at Rs 1,119 crore and reflects the state’s push to diversify its energy base with solar energy while exploring opportunities for exporting power to Nepal.
