NTPC, India’s largest power producer under the Ministry of Power has completed trial operations of Unit-3 (660 MW) of its North Karanpura Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Chatra district, Jharkhand. This addition brings NTPC’s total installed capacity to 81,368 MW, including 60,266 MW on a standalone basis.
The North Karanpura STPP is a coal-based project consisting of three 660 MW units (3x660 MW). With the successful commissioning of Unit-3, all three units are now operational, contributing significantly to India's thermal power generation. In a regulatory filing, NTPC stated, "Unit-3 of the 660 MW capacity of the project has completed trial operation and is consequently included in the installed capacity of NTPC Limited."
This milestone underscores NTPC’s role in bolstering the country’s base-load power supply through efficient thermal power infrastructure. The addition at North Karanpura strengthens its commitment to energy security and reliability in India.
