NTPC is making significant strides in the nuclear energy sector, and is in talks with governments of 16 states, including Bihar, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, to acquire land for new nuclear power plants.
The company aims to achieve a total capacity of 30 GW of nuclear power by 2047, aligning with India's national target of 100 GW. NTPC will build pressurized heavy-water reactors (PHWRs) ranging from 700 MW to 1600 MW. It will also collaborate with international firms for capacity expansion. Earlier this year, NTPC launched NTPC Parmana Urja Nigam to manage its nuclear initiatives. NTPC's current nuclear operations include the 4x700 MW Mahi Banswara project in Rajasthan, developed in collaboration with NPCIL.
To support its growth, NTPC is training 60 employees in nuclear operations and exploring uranium mine acquisitions abroad. This expansion supports India's clean energy goals and long-term energy security, contributing to its renewable energy target of 500 GW by 2030.
