The technical team of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has accorded
technical clearance for the establishment of a coal based thermal power plant at
Kudigi in Basavanabagewadi taluk of Bijapur district in Karnataka.
The NTPC team visited the proposed project site on the request of Karnataka
government to decide whether the place was suitable for setting up a thermal
plant. It is also reported that paying heed to the recommendations of the
technical team, the state government has decided to acquire land on one side of
the road to enable smooth supply of four tmc water from Almatti reservoir.
To facilitate transport of coal, railway lines are likely to be laid from
Murmgoa Port to Kudigi. The state is expected to allocate Rs.20,000 crore for
the project with NTPC giving a matching grant.
