Nagarjuna Construction Co will start
work on two recently awarded contracts, together valued at Rs.118 crore, in
September or October 2006.
Speaking to ProjectsToday, senior
officials from NCC stated that the company won two orders - one for a state road
development project and the for an irrigation project - together worth Rs.118
crore.
The first order, valued at Rs.65
crore, was placed by Chhattisgarh State Road Development Corporation. This Asian
Development Bank-assisted project involves the upgrade and rehabilitation of a
72.40 km-stretch from Rajnandgaon
to Mohala in Rajnandgaon district. NCC officials said that the formal
agreement would be signed on 15 August 2006 and construction work is likely to
start in September 2006. The project is targeted for completion within 24 months
of commencement.
The second order was for development
of the Sanjay
Sagar Dam (Wah) Project in Madhya Pradesh. The Rs.53 crore order, placed by
the MP government, involves construction of a concrete and earthern dam in
Vidisha district of the state. Discussing the scope of work, NCC officials said
that the order involved construction of a 1.8 km dam of which 1.5 km will be
earthern and 0.3 km, concrete. The project will be spread over 15,000 ha of
land. It may be mentioned that in February 2004, the Centre permitted the
diversion of 304 ha of forest land, rekindling this long-pending project.
NCC is hopeful of starting work on the
irrigation project in October 2006 after procuring materials by September 2006.
The contract will be executed over 24 months without the involvement of
sub-contractors, NCC officials further explained.
